"Be at the forefront of low carbon building design"
The BRE are developing their ClimateLite tool for sustainable design. ClimateLite will help building designers to apply from a very early stage - a systematic approach that quickly and cost effectively addresses challenging current and future carbon emission targets and the use of renewable energy technologies. This three-year, DTI funded project aims to have a prototype tool ready by October 2008. Read more...
Also look at SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model). SBEM is a computer program that provides an analysis of a building's energy consumption. SBEM calculates monthly energy use and carbon dioxide emissions of a building given a description of the building geometry, construction, use and HVAC and lighting equipment. http://www.bre.co.uk/energyrating/page.jsp?id=694
